Doramectin InjectionIt is available as a sterile solution, typically containing 1% w/v (10 mg/mL) of doramectin, and is sold under brand names such as Dectomax® and Doraject™. Key Product Features
- Active Ingredient: Doramectin, a fermentation-derived macrocyclic lactone of the avermectin class.
- Mechanism of Action: It works by modulating chloride ion channel activity in the nerve and muscle cells of nematodes and arthropods, causing paralysis and death of the parasites. It is safe for mammals because the relevant neuronal receptors are primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), which doramectin does not easily cross in high concentrations.
Doramectin injection is effective against various stages (adults and fourth-stage larvae) of harmful parasites, including:
- Gastrointestinal Roundworms: Ostertagia ostertagi, Haemonchus placei, Trichostrongylus spp., Cooperia spp., Oesophagostomum radiatum, and others.
- Lungworms: Dictyocaulus viviparus (cattle), Metastrongylus spp. (swine).
- Eyeworms: Thelazia spp.
- Grubs/Warbles: Hypoderma bovis, H. lineatum (parasitic stages).
- Sucking Lice: Haematopinus spp., Linognathus vituli, Solenopotes capillatus
